Qinghai·China

This set of pictures was taken in the southwest of Qinghai, China, and there were abandoned military bases and ruined oil towns exploring along the Qaidam Basin. The traces left by time and life were stacked here, and these long-abandoned buildings were like beacons in the surging wilderness. Actually, the incompleteness itself had its own strong sense of beauty. If the space can be folded, I wanted to rejoin these remains to show their beautiful and humble charms.

These pictures were taken in Xihai Town, Haiyan County
which used to be a military base in the mid-1960s.

This set of pictures was taken in Lenghu Town, which was located in the northwest of Qaidam Basin, south of Altun Mountain. To the west, it was Lop Nur, Xinjiang, and to the north, it could reach Dunhuang, Gansu. It was an alpine desert area. And it used to be a dazzling center because of its rich oil production. With the exhaustion of resources, the originally prosperous town gradually fell into decline. After people left the empty building, the yellow sand in the Gobi once again flooded this deserted town.

This group of pictures was taken in the highway service area, and the simple prefab houses were also abandoned in the wilderness with the decline of the town. At the busiest time in the past, the Tin House was the only grocery store within a radius of a few hundred kilometers, next to a humble little restaurant, where long-distance truck drivers rested and got supplied.

This group of pictures was taken at the site of the oil base. More than 70 years ago, this was a no-man's land. Later, after oil resources were discovered here, thousands of oil workers came here with tens of thousands of people living in this land. After the oil dried up, the residents moved out this area.
