Feed Your Mind

One of the most challenging components of year 2 was identifying topics and subjects to build my projects. My professors left some case studies very open and others we had to select a side of an argument on a particular topic. My case study topic was GMOs. I honestly never thought about their impacts on my personal food selections and did not want to jump on any side without really researching. After doing some reading and research I still did not have a real opinion about the usage but noticed something about how the subject is presented - a lot of fear driven campaigns. I don't believe this is the best way to educate an audience. My aim with the project was to dvelope a campaign that would place the general information out to the people who could then decide for themselves. There were so many anti-GMO campaigns out there, I figure this would be a nice challenge to play to the other side of the argument.  I called the campaign "Feed Your Mind".  The project really pushed the balances of personal belief and morality and communicating to an audience, but was a great research experience for me.
Typography as Form, Information, and Meaning
Book project

The goal of the project was to create a design proposal for a book design that clearly articulates the intended methods of research and analysis. We could research any topic related to typography and from our reseach design a 40+ page book using our own copy. I did my research on the impact of Law 760/07 which legalized graffiti in Brazil.

Typography as Form and Information
Symbol Design

For this project, I had to investigate typography as form, meaning, and information within the context of technological advancement. I explorde these ideas through the most primitive forms of communication: cuneiform and writing. The goal was to research and develop a set of three to five pictograms or ideograms. The images had to communicate independently, but also communicate a complex idea or thought as a set. I pulled inspiration for the final forms from Adinkra symbols and African art.
