Illustration series inspired by a story written by H.C.Andersen "The Little Mermaid". With this project I wanted to emphasize the feelings of the Little Mermaid - her sadness because of the unrequited love and a sense of non-belonging to the underwater world. This is the reason why the characters are shown as silhouettes, without too much detail, also why using just a few main colors per image. I tried to create the underwater atmosphere with simple lines and cut-outs depicting seaweed and plants. For the final illustrations I used gouache and collage. Except the illustrations, I wanted to show the sketching material for this project, which I think look more spontaneous and free than the final work.
