Spiritual Balance
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we go through a range of emotions everyday. Pushed to the extreme, this can result in instability which makes us go off-balance in our ability to cope with the challenges of everyday life. This means that human beings and their psychological health are in dire need of repairs.
Compared to adolescents and adults who are stressed out from work and family duties, I found the elderly to be more in control of their emotions. Every evening, my grandmother and her friends conduct a satsang (spiritual discourse) where they practice pranic and chakra healing. Having seen its effect in imbibing calmness among her circle, I was inspired to depict the Seven Chakras which helps establish an equilibrium between the physical body, mind and spirit.
In Sanskrit (an Indian language), chakra translates to wheel, and the seven wheels in the body are distinct energy centres that start at the top of your head and end at the bottom of your spine. By practising these seven chakras daily one can bring stability to his/her spiritual, emotional, psychological and physical aspects of their being. I also chose to depict a mandala in the background as a sacred symbol for healing. Through this work of mine, I want to promote this particular practice such that people can attain peace and happiness by repairing and aligning their chakras.
