Magazine Spread Layouts

About the project: This project was created for a Typography course and tasked me to create two different 2 page magazine spreads for the same content. The layouts had to utilize different techniques that supported the message of the content and include typography that also supported the message and the layouts.

The first layout utilizes a uniform layout within the body copy to offset the asymmetrical layout that all of the elements create. The layout is less educational and celebrates the artistic side of music by pushing the boundaries of design. The second layout has a uniform layout among all elements to create a more educational piece. Both layouts include a heading, subheading, body copy, and a pull-quote along with complimentary typography.

The typography in the first layout utilizes a bold sans serif font in the heading and sub heading with a serif font for the body copy as serif fonts are easier to read when there is lots of body copy in a small point size. The second layout is opposite the first layout in that it utilizes a serif font for the heading and a sans serif font for the rest of the information. The sans serif font was chosen for this layout because this type of font is easier to read digitally and this educational magazine spread was made with the idea that it would be available for digital viewing.
