Illustrated book cover series
I chose a concept of nonfiction books which delve into major mental illnesses within the faith community. This book series aspires to inform and encourage layman in the church and help them to understand clinical mental illnesses that Christians struggle with and how they can emotionally, spiritually, and practically help. The series will take an honest look into the lives of individuals and their illnesses that are too often minimized and seek to provide understanding and compassion within the Church.

I designed a cohesive set of covers that are minimalistic, attractive, bold, and modern. Through the design, I want people to easily identify the subject and specific mental illness for each book. I want the reader to get the impression that the information inside the books include a cutting-edge, no-nonsense approach on mental illnesses. The covers look inviting and modern, but serious, and also professional. Comparable to what you would see from health literature. The books could be sold as a set and will harmonize when they are stacked together.

The background for each book cover is a solid color that represents the mental illness (i.e., depression would be blue, anxiety as a bright electric magenta). The abstract illustrations represent the targeted illness. For instance, “depression” uses repetitive tear drop shapes. The illustrations are in white creating high contrast and vibrance. The illustrations contain repetition with the duplicated image behind the main image, and painted with the same vibrant color as what accompanies the title word. I utilized one palette per book that are complimentary to each other. For example, Anxiety-magenta, Depression-navy blue, Bipolar-orange, and Schizophrenia (optional cover)-medium aqua.

For another version, I added grunge textures in layers on the cover designs below.
