The summer of 2007 saw one of the worst wildfire seasons in Greece's recent history with over 500 fires burning out of control across the country on just one day... many of which are suspected of having been started deliberately by arsonists seeking to bring down the country's government. One of the worst of these fires struck in Ancient Olympia devasting thousands of homes and olive groves thereby hitting on the two main sources of Greece's income... tourism and olive oil.
This series of photos was taken over three days which saw 63 people killed by the fires over 3000 homes destroyed and acres of olive groves and pine forest complately razed.
