Objective: Capture 10 - 15 shots which tell a story about you.  This can be a day in your life, highlighting someone or something you care about, etc... Essentially, you want to utilize the images to narrate a portion of your life in visual story form and order.  

My chosen theme is what I call “the in-between space.” It represents the shared moment of distinct realities I get to experience with my family and friends living abroad. 

Because the physical connection is not possible while I am studying in the U.S., I thought about different ways in which I can build my relationships in the online world. From having a breakfast date or a dinner date to cooking together to virtually partying, this “in-between space” is significant for me and my loved ones as it helps us connect in ways we could not otherwise. 

I photographed a friend while calling his family abroad in this “in-between space.” The pictures show him on a video call, cooking and eating with his loved ones, etc. In contrast, I have symbolic pictures of him feeling alone, which I showed through moody editing and dramatic lighting. As he builds the “in-between space” with his loved ones, the editing and lighting became brighter and brighter.
