SAVE CALIFORNIA - PSA Campaign

SAVE CALIFORNIA - PSA Campaign
For this project, I was tasked to create a series of three professional quality print ad posters that could be used in a Public Service Announcement (PSA) print campaign. The posters were intended to promote an important issue or topic that affects individuals and communities. I chose to focus on the issue of Wildfire Prevention in California.

This issue is very personal to me since I live in California and there has been an exponential increase in wildfires throughout the state over the past several years. My goal with this project is to educate and inform people who don’t consider the many factors and possibilities that are involved with preventing wildfires.
The target audience for this campaign is California residents between the ages of 16-30 years old. California has been dealing with wildfires almost every summer for the past five years, and nearly all of these fires were started by humans or an indirect result of human consequence. The goal of the campaign is to educate and inform people within this demographic that wildfires are preventable and aren’t just accidents; nine times out of ten, wildfires are caused by humans.

According to the AdCouncil website, “For more than 75 years, Smokey Bear has protected our forests and promoted wildfire prevention. His powerful message, “Only you can prevent wildfires,” is at the heart of America’s longest-running PSA campaign. Smokey’s message remains relevant today, as nearly nine out of ten wildfires nationwide are caused by humans and can be prevented. Additionally, during these unprecedented times, spending time outdoors has never felt more valuable. Whether we’re passing the time in public lands or in our own backyards, we all have a role to play in keeping our safe places safe by acting responsibly and doing our part to help prevent wildfires.”

This project involved a great deal of brainstorming, sketching, and conducting visual experiments. The following grid is a visual sample of my process and a peek into my creative brain.
