Blog Illustration

Monito is an award-winning fin-tech company founded in Lausanne, Switzerland. Their aim is to help us save money on transfer fees and exchange rates.

The illustration style focuses on a vector base with clean, minimal line work and subtle usage of pastel colours throughout the design system. I was responsible for creating a unique and original character world, digital visuals, blog illustrations for social media posts, advertisements to be used on websites, blog posts, and other marketing materials.

01, THUMBNAIL SKETCH

Initially, for each blog's topic, a rough thumbnail sketch is created by providing two to three different options in a short period of time. The rough thumbnail sketch helped me as well as the client to brainstorm visual ideas and cues by understanding what to represent and what not to. These raw ideas play a major role in solving the initial design problem and finalising the concept, composition, character movements, and components that are going to involve in each illustration.

02. ROUGH LINING

Once the thumbnail sketch is finalised, it gets developed with proper detailing for characters and their surrounding components with the help of multiple real-time references. A major part of the detailing involves perspectives, overall angles, isometrics, costume design, posture of the characters and their surrounding scene/environment.

03. FINAL LINING

The Procreate file is taken to Adobe Illustrator to vectorise the entire illustration by drafting above the rough lining. Each line is carefully drafted without losing the original proportions and details of the illustration. The alignment of each line plays a major role while vectorising.

The final stage involves choosing the right colour combination that plays a subtle role in the overall design system. Pastel colour palette is used widely for such design requirements. For outlines, slightly saturated and darker-toned colours are used with respect to their fill component.
