JEMMS (Journal of Education Media Memory & Society) is an international academic journal published by Berghahn on behalf of the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research. For the 10th anniversary of the journal I was given the task of redesigning the cover. The client wanted a design which abstracted the publication's acronym and transformed these abstracted symbols into modular design elements. I worked exclusively in Illustrator for this piece. The work commenced in 2018 and was finished in 2020 following prolonged delays and discussions. Several different designs were proposed along the way, although the designs shown include several colour variations, which are planned to be rolled out over the next ten years.

The cover design went through many iterations before it was ready for publication. Above, several different experiments working with modular forms derived from the acronym of the publication using various typefaces. Experimentation with cool and warm palettes was eventually settled through annual variation.
