Brief
A number of companies are rethinking the use of the traditional office and looking toward a more collaborative working environment. Instead of traditional desks and chairs, office tenants are looking for a think tank/idea generating/quirky and fun type space where they can have meetings, brainstorm and relax (think google offices (but on a budget)) within their current offices. As a commercial landlord, we want to offer this within our buildings to attract these forward thinking tenants.
The project must include: any part of the 10th floor (max 2 wings) for the think tank / idea generating fun space; atriums; small rooftop area; office space (250m2 - 500m2), include a reception area, open plan desks, office/s and meeting room/s, a printing area and a small kitchen/coffee area.
Concept
Office design has evolved and a trend proving to be successful is an Activity Based Workspace. This concept is based on different spaces related to various tasks, providing variety and freedom to move around according to ones activity and mood. Each individual works differently and allowing for flexible working will ensure that everyone is as productive as they could be.
The concept for my design is based on Biophilic Design - connecting with nature to improve health and well being. This focuses on human’s attraction to nature and natural processes. It suggests that we all have a genetic connection to the natural world. Biophilic Design uses these ideas as principles to create a human centred approach that when applied improves the spaces that people live and work in benefits ones wellbeing. Top companies in the world such as Apple, Google and Amazon are using this approach and it has proven to be a success.
This space going to be designed to increase productivity based on Activity Based Workspace and Biophilic Design.“Different spaces within space” mirroring how we really work and live, using a neutral palette with pops of colour and greenery.
