The World Design Capital contest was established to raise the international audience awareness about urban initiatives, new solutions, strengths and values of design, as well as innovative approaches used in everyday life. Every two years, the World Design Organization announces a city that successfully works in the field of design for the purpose of urban planning, innovation and business development. Turin, Italy, was recognized as the first World Design Capital in 2008. This title was also awarded to Lille, Mexico City, Taipei, Cape Town and Helsinki. Moscow has been selected in the international competition World Design Capital 2024.
