Surabaya is the capital of East Java Province which has the enormous economic growth was followed by the increased mobility of the people inside and outside the city of Surabaya. Surabaya is often said to be a very hot city, even being one of the hottest cities in Indonesia. Hot air should not be an obstacle in creating a comfortable public transportation system for city dwellers. Surabaya, which in colonial times was known as a city that has the best transit-based transportation in Indonesia, needs to set an example for the development of a comfortable and sustainable public transportation infrastructure.

Urban Canopy serves as a solution to cope with excessive heat and provides a new image of Surabaya as a city that is comfortable to "cool down", something that is rarely encountered by urban communities nowadays. Urban Canopy is a representation of one simple definition of architecture in the form of shade, which is expected to be a prototype of a design paradigm for an effective and comfortable transit hub in Surabaya, which is in a tropical area. The convenience of transit activities is one of the main factors so that people are aware of the importance of public space and transit activities.

The design can be applied on a wider scale in the later stages of development. Transit-oriented area development. Therefore, the development of the area is focused on the area around Gubeng Main Station. It is hoped that all major facilities in the area can be accessed easily on foot. Even though the area can grow to such a large extent, efforts are made to develop the area to remain compact and prioritize the effectiveness and density of the area. However, this development does not hinder the concept of a comfortable space with the Urban Canopy.

Gubeng Terminal connects one transportation system with another transportation system. With the Gubeng Terminal, the development of the city of Surabaya which is oriented towards the transit system is possible, creating a comfortable city of Surabaya for the city's residents. There is a strong connection, the city with the transportation system. There are two types of mass transportation, namely inter-city and intra-city transportation. This mode of transportation requires sheltered transit areas.
Design with a module system allows for a design that is adaptive to the context in which it is located. The existence of a design module can facilitate construction and deconstruction with a prefabricated system. Design with modules still has freedom in its arrangement so as to allow a design that fits in the context of the existing site, allowing for expansion to suit future needs.
There is a station building that has existed since colonial times. By juxtaposing the new building side by side with the original building, the new work is integrated into the original building's functionality without being intrusive. With this contrast, the value of existing buildings is maintained and emphasizes the context of the times so that significant differences can be seen from the differences in the age of the building

Adapting to the context of the old station era, it now functions as a Surabaya History Gallery, considering that Surabaya is famous as a city of struggle.
The function of this retail component supports the activities of SMEs in Surabaya. The component system used makes it easy from the design, construction, to building maintenance stages.

The design is made in components to provide can be applied to various types of functions. At the building construction stage, this component uses a prefabricated system so as to speed up the development process. This component system can also be disassembled if you want to add, remove, or move buildings. That way, this component system can add value to the sustainability of the building.
