PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY
Brief Outline
As a sound introduction to photography in Information Design, it is necessary to understand the camera instead of just taking photos, and so this project required the camera to be made from scratch, and then only used to take photos. The basic principles of photography, negative versus positive aspects and how light is recorded, and finally learning basic dark room techniques and print making. The aim of this project is to ensure a basic understanding of the principles and darkroom techniques, and exposure to light sensitivity.
Technical Specifications
begin the photography sessions by reporting to the darkroom with an already made camera, and white photography paper, bring stationary with to the session to cut the photography paper and to change the pinhole camera if needed.
A pinhole camera is defined as a box or a can, with a tiny hole at one end and photographic paper on the other. The whole must be small and clean to produce sharp pictures.
Rationale
This project was unique from the rest of the projects this year, as it focused on pure photography rather than drawing like the rest of the ILL projects. This project allowed us to understand how photos are developed in the dark room, and how to make our own camera. I decided to create simple yet very high contrasted compositions for the 3 photographs. The 3 photographs have to be of a human, and object and a setting. The setting is a building on campus, the human is myself in a dynamic pose to show movement, and the object is a coke bottle between my boots.
