Wolf Impressionism Portrait

The Alpha Wolf
This is project is from my freshman year and is one of the first ever graphic arts projects I ever decided to undertake. We were tasked with painting with specific brushes and a specific style of art in mind. I decided to go with a pseudo-impressionist style, which is a style originating from the 19th century consisting of very thin and visible strokes. I ended up downloading Kyle T. Webster impressionist brushes from Adobe. That's sort of the style I was going for but I didn't stick to that style strictly per se. It was somewhat hard to actually do this project because we were on zoom and I didn't really do it on a powerful pc at the time, so I did it on a surface tablet, yet this is still the final result I ended up with after my hard work.
Here is the image of the wolf I actually painted over. As you can see my painting stays pretty true to the original image, with the main deviations being the actual art style and the purple background. I got the free image of the wolf from the website unsplash, and then got to work.
Here is the earliest version of my work on the project, I decided to start off with the eyes and upper part of the face and then work way around. I tried to to best convey the darker colors and also added some lighter color for just some slight contrast to the overall thing. Even to get this far in the project, it took a while do to it just being mainly little brush strokes.
In this picture I was still in the early stages of the project. I was making slow progress, but the upper parts of the face can be seen now, and you can really see the menacing look of the wolf. I also began to work on the left eye, which is the yellowish-orange marks off to the side.
This is about the middle stage of my project, here I really focused on the lower face area. I completed the nose transitioning the grey of the fur into a blue-black of the nose and I also added whiskers to the side to further illustrate that it was a wolf. At this point there was some white spots within the actual painting, but I left them because I thought it contributed to the style I was kind of going for.
This is an image of the painting, marks the beginning of the end stages for the project. I outlined the ears and then filled them in one color, I made one ear lighter and the other ear darker to reflect the true color of the wolf's fur and shadow. I also finished the back and the left side of the face, and started to do the legs. Overall, here you can clearly see the wolf and all of its diverse fur colors.
I was getting close to finishing my project after a few weeks of working on it. I needed to add a background to the image, but I didn't really want to just paint the background from the original image. Instead I decided to go with a dark purple background with the lower darker part of the fur and light purple background with the uppermost lighter parts of the wolf's fur. I did this because I felt like they fit the darker vibe of the wolf and also added contrast to the painting while not being to stark of a contrast.
At first I was going to leave the white spaces because I thought it added to the style, but then I changed my mind and decided to fill in the spots from the background, completing the impressionist style I was going for. Finally after all that work, I was finished with the painting.
Here's a the painting on a canvas, potentially in one's home or in a museum. It may be somewhat out of place with the theme of the items on the desk, but those items could be easily replaced with something more related, or the canvas could be moved as well.
Here's a potential advertisement for a Western Art Exhibit, featuring my painting. One could get a preview of the impressionist and other western styles to expect at the exhibition.
Here's a potential dog food brand and their would-be packaging. I named it Wild Roots to reflect the wilderness vibe of the wolf and added some other basic information. I also lighten the background to more a blue color rather than the original purple I had.
