Set Design
Set and Costumes Design for the ancient tragedy "Electra'', by Sophocles
This is my proposal for the set designing, the costumes, the light designing and the poster of ''Electra'', in the context of the scenography studio of Athens School of Fine Arts, during the 8th semester, 2021. The play was supposed to take place at the ancient theater of Epidaurus, in Greece. The main idea for the scenery of "Electra" was born from the philosophy of land art, but also from the in situ installations. The scenery consists of fifteen large ceramic sculptures (from approx.1.20-1.30 m to 1.70-1.80 high), in various shapes and forms, that will be placed in all over the stage randomly, but in the same time they will represent the entrance of the palace in ancient Argos (for the model, I used polymer clay). The connection of the setting with the plot is based on the frequent reference of the protagonists to the importance of burial dedications and more generally to the importance of afterlife. So the idea for these sculptures is to function associatively in the viewer's mind as if they were burial offerings of the Mycenaean tombs, without however being immediately identified with them. The project had been presented in a model of scale 1:100.
