The Evening by Charles Simic
Book cover design for Charles Simic's "The Evening". Inspired by Japanese Ukiyo-e printmaker Imao Keinen's work, I have attempted to reflect the author's love and appreciation for nature in my cover art as well. The background is textured to provide contrast against the free flowing botanical illustration that wraps around the spine to the back cover. The typeface used in the title is a handwritten script, adding to the organic feel of the design. The second typeface used for the summary and author's name is a clean sans-serif that contrasts against the fluidity of the entire design, and makes the text stand out. The overall design is organic, delicate, and minimal.
