Enduring by Design
The lifespan of home furnishings is an ongoing concern with global mass production and the ever growing seasonal trends. The market is flooded with objects which will soon become obsolescent; discarded for newer and seasonally desirable designs.

A products capacity to be enduring is often a topic only discussed in relation to durability and repairability. Whilst this is desirable it may not influence the way a consumer will value these belongings in the future.

Enduring by design assists in the creation of objects that encourage enduring and deepened relationships between object and user. Encouraging consumers to want to cherish and keep them for longer.
The Toolkit consists of themes relating to, narratives, identity, materiality, repairability and evolvability. Designed to be used by designers during the ideation and validation stages of a design project, used as a tool to inform their design practice and increase the likelihood that emotion and attachment building qualities are integrated into the end product. Facilitating the engagement and use of material and emotional durability concepts in order to positively influence the longevity of new products.
Matrix Map tiles
The Matrix Map Tiles reflect the same shapes and colours used in the theoretical matrix. They are used to map out and describe the different Elements and Aspects of the object in relation to the matrix themes.
Timeline
The timeline is made up of five different stages which describe the different phases of the object and user relationship. the timeline tool can be arranged in different patterns to describe the type of lifecycle that is intended for the object.
Using the Matrix Map tiles and Timeline together to understand how the objects specific elements will impact its endurance across its lifespan.
