This is concept project,a Social Center for people with disabilities.The site is located in Gomec, Dursunlu. The center contains 7 functions. Education, Physiotherapy, Accommodation, Multimedia, Library, Social, Sports and Offices.

 

The biggest problem i have encountered during the design process is that the site is very sloped and the ramps take a lot of space. The solution i came with is to gather the ramps together and use them as separators between functions.

I have grouped the functions that work together and located them around the social space to provide a better functioning transportation. Because the social space is the only function that will be used more than once a day as it includes dining and free-time. The day of a user starts in the social space. The boarding users are using the first ramp to reach the social space while the others use the bus to reach it.

The ground floor of the center contains the functions that can be used all day, while the other floors -which are reached by ramps- are used in certain hours. (dining hall, classrooms, physiotherapy)

Lastly, the facade design separates two floors. The ground floor is decided stone cladding to establish a local style. The second floor is white on plaster to both lighten the mass and to separate the function. The separating ramps elevate higher than the rest of the buildings to both receive sunlight from both top and sides which provides a view to enjoy the most important aspect of the center and attract attention.
