Animating for Clients 2021
I stayed decently true to the schedule, however near the end things got a little pushed back. It is the night before the deadline and the sound designer has only sent me the sound effects, not the full sound track. Hopefully he can get that to me tonight so that it can all be finished on time, however, there is still a finalized animation with sound effects that has been uploaded to the OneDrive. I also finished animating a week later than I thought I would and some compositing, which I gave myself around a week to complete, had to be done in a day.
I feel good about the film and I think the voice actor and the sound effects work really well with it. I won't upload it here because it is up on the OneDrive but it can be accessed there in full. I wish that we could have worked a little bit closer with Beano for the project but it was still a good experience to do nonetheless.

Below are two images of the same Gantt chart that I made for the project. I enjoyed making the chart and I definitely see how it is a really good tool to use if you are a project manager. I did find it a little difficult at first to get a grip on but I used Wrike (with a free trail) and it was the most easy to use template I could find. I do find it hard to plan down to the day, especially as a uni student but I think it's still useful in order to get a general idea of how long things should take/when they should be done.
The grid below shows screenshots from my pitch presentation to the class. I think the presentation was pretty well received and I think having a planned out animatic really helped. The feedback that stood out to me the most was about not leaning into action film copout tropes too much. I think particularly in regards to animation. I'm hoping to have the time to make the movements more realistic and detailed than I have in the animatic. I also am hoping to refine the character design a bit more as well.
Moving forward I want to try and create a gantt chart and I also want to get started animating.
I also have the animatic with subtitles below the presentation images.
Below is the animatic based off of the storyboard that I created. It lasts under a minute and a half but I think it might stretch out when I start properly animating. Although it is just an animatic I quite like the dark pen line and the black and white with bits of red color palette. I have written a script and I want to put subtitles to the animatic so when I present it to the class and to Beano they can understand the narrative a bit more.
Rough Storyboard/Narrative
Notes:
The images below are of the storyboard that I hav made for a narrative about the Amazing X. In the story the main character is on the nights watch for Beanotown when suddenly there is a break in at a local grocery store. Amazing X sees that all the fish have been stolen and instantly starts to chase the thief. After a brief chase the superhero uses their superhuman strength to lift a car that the thief has hidden behind only to discover that the thief is only a cat. The narrative ends there. I think it's a cute little story that is playful and will be fun to animate. The narrative isn't crazy sophisticated but I think it works with the brief.
Initial Sketches/Ideas/Thoughts
Notes:
I was originally thinking of doing Pansy Potter the Strongmans Daughter. I really love her design and her spiky hair. I think the strong woman/girl narrative is a really cool one and has a lot of potential. But after messing around with her design for awhile I couldn't narrow down on a style or on a narrative. Ultimately, I feel like I should drop her. I've also been playing around a little the Amazing Mr. X. I think it could be really fun to do a superhero and there's a lot of different directions that I could go in. I've been thinking about making the character gender neutral and changing the name to the Amazing X. I think it could be really cool to play around with the gender dynamics of superhero and have a character that has no gender. Below are some sketches of done of the two characters.
