A Festive Holiday
By: Leena De La Hoz
What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the holidays? I think of festive colors, drinking hot cocoa by the fireplace, making gingerbread cookies, and decking out on all the holiday decor. This was a perfect theme for what the objective was.
I tried to simplify it onto pencil and paper in the beginning, to give me a better idea of where to start. Sketching out all of your ideas helps give you a better idea of where to start in the design process. One of the things I tried to do with most of my sketches, is to focus less on the detail and more on the shapes. It helps me much more when I start the design process.
The above images are the drafts of my first six designs. There were some aspects of the design that the client was not happy with, so I decided to remove the black outline to give it a more simple and professional look. I added more light shadows to give it more dimension. These small changes made the design come together.
Once the final revisions were made to these designs, the client was a lot happier. The color scheme was consistent, the edges are rounded on all of the designs. They are all unique and original designs, which the client appreciated.
