Humans find their habitat

This photo essay is about Habitat for Humanity and two houses being built by them in north Baton Rouge, LA. One House is almost complete and the other is still under construction.
Habitat for Humanity is non-governmental and non-profit organization that is devoted to building affordable housing for underprivileged families. They operate throughout the United States. Habitat for humanity was born in 1976.
Habitat for Humanity is constantly stressing to the general public that houses need to be built. This is partly the reason the have such a large volunteer turn out.
Habitat for Humanity relies heavily on volunteers. Volunteers are what make this organization “tick.” Since it is a non-profit they have staff but not very many of them. People volunteer through their, churches, schools and communities. The organization also requires the future home owners to work on their future home, and the home owners gladly help.
The two houses shown in this photo essay are in a underprivileged neighborhood comprised mainly of houses built by Habitat for Humanity.
The two houses were being led by volunteers who were there on behalf of AmeriCorps, an American version of the Peace Corps. They were knowledgeable when it comes to construction. These volunteers hailed from all over the United States, from Iowa to California. They were constantly preaching to themselves and other volunteers about how important the organization is. This commitment to an organization is why Habitat for Humanity has succeeded for so many years, and will with years to come.
All in all, this photo essay tells the story of the volunteers and the organization. It also gives the audience an overall feel for how things get done on a Habitat for Humanity work site. But, the main focus is how houses progress from wooden frames to a family’s home.
