Our concept was to create dedicated docking stations in locations transitions in balance were most likely to occur and with the cane inside the docking station would the user would have the leverage needed to facilitate rising and sitting. The cane would also illuminate by a touch sensor and can be recharged while placed back into the docking stations. The touch sensor is particularly advantageous for elderly persons with arthritis and other joint and muscle related infirmities. We successfully created an award-winning design (see below) that was simple and effective. My contributions included brainstorming, conceptualizing and hand-fabricating the lighting system, hand-sketching the overall project design, and assisting with the general development and presentation of our prototype.
