Problem Statement
It is incredibly difficult to reach to a particular house even if you know the House number as the arrangement of house numbers is convoluted.
The Trigger
My dad one day brought an old map of our neighborhood to home. We quickly realized that if we could place this map at the main entrances of our neighborhood then it would solve the problem of navigation.
The Process
Iteration 1
First we tried re-creating the old map to a new cleaner map. The idea was to take a big printout and put it on a board.
Constraints
- Lack of money
- Lack of physical space
Iteration 2
The best way to avoid these constraints and still solve the problem was through a interactive digital map. I realized that Google has a tool called My Maps that allows creation of custom maps.
We got volunteers to survey the entire neighborhood to collect photos and house co-ordinates.
The Solution
An interactive mobile based map that allows navigation to a particular house and provides additional information.
1 | Check your location with respect to the nearest house
2 | View details of the house
3 | Navigate to any other landmark
The Execution
Just the concept is not enough so we thought of popularizing the map through channels such as Whatsapp and QR code. Given below are a few images how this map is currently in use at the main entrance gate of the locality.
