Exploring the anatomy of typefaces and how they can be layered into a composition
ITC Avant Garde Gothic Pro
Designed by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase in the 1970's. This font family is has serif's and comes in many different variations. These variations include different stroke weights and italicized letters. I enjoyed this typeface for its direct legibility and the large family it claims.
Garamond
Claude Garamond was a French designer who created this font family in the early 16th century. Garamond classifies as a serif, old-style font family.
Caslon
William Caslon created the Caslon typeface in England during the 1720's. He worked with old-style serif letter design, and was one of the first to be engraving letterforms in England. His forms were inspired by the Dutch Baroque style which was popular at the time.
Didot
Didot is a French Modern type family created by Firmin Didot. It rose to popularity during the 17th and 18th centuries, but it is very popular in Greece. It contains stroke contrasts and condensed armatures and was inspired by Bodoni and Baskerville.
Franklin Gothic
The once contemporary term "Gothic" refers to a family of san-serif letterforms. Franklin Gothic was created at the American Type Founders, by head designer Morris Fuller Benton. It contains faces in the Industrial and Grotesque style. Because of it's legibility, it is popularly used in advertisements and headlines.
