Violetki Collective's profile

Autonomous Cinema 1st edition

We believe video is an awesome medium for self-expression, activism and art for art's sake, but we are tired of elitist film festivals. We reject the culture of competition and instead prefer supporting each other and creating together - this is why we don’t curate the films sent to us. We show every submission we receive, as long as it fits with our  values and it’s not something that’s been sponsored by businesses or  states.

Our first edition of Autonomous Cinema was on the 5th of September 2020, an outdoor screening at Fabrika Avtonomia.

You can watch all the films in our

We have a specific way of screening the films: we show one person’s  work, then we have a short discussion with the filmmakers (unless  they’re too shy to join), and we offer positive and constructive feedback. This has created a very supportive and cosy atmosphere, which has given us great hope that there really is another way to  organise spaces for people to share their art, which is not based on  competition at all but on collective growth.
