We cannot accept this happening and we cannot lower our heads in the face of the cry for help from many Afghan men and women who, however far away they may be, are suffering and will continue to suffer as a result of the West's unwise decision to abandon their country to the Taliban. Afghan men and women are no less human than we are. I believe that it is the duty of each one of us, as far as possible, to do something or make a small gesture of denunciation so that this new disgrace is not forgotten.
