Pink Floyd "In the Flesh?"
2021

This project came up as a proposition from my first year of design college. The objective was to choose a sound and graphically represent it in a storage artifact, without resorting to typography or subsequent graphic image, as well as creating a promotional object.

Although Pink Floyd are very well known for its surrealistic design, by the Studio Hipgnosis, I decided to take my inspiration from a very different place, thinking of the Berlin Wall, since the full album is about its fall, and street art, especially Basquiat.

With this in mind I started by creating a vinyl cover. I created a "superior" character with godlike power, but that only stands watching humanity. So, by unfolding the cover to get the single, you can see that all the four illustrations are connected, like a vicious circle, in which the character ponders abourt war (plane) and peace (flower).

On the other side, there's a fullsize illustration of the character and a pocket with the single.

For the promocional object I decided to do a seedbom, which is an object made of cardboard that contains seeds in it. Therefore, you may soak it wet and then burry it on dirt for the plants to grow. This idea came from the illustrations of the character either holding a plane or a flower, in the sense of war and peace, but in the seedbom, which takes the shape of the plane, it's no longer a symbol of war.

This object is only a prototype made of modeling paste. It comes with a tag explaining how it works.

I ended up getting so excited with the project that I decided to explore it further, desiging a cassette, to really set the 1980s vibe, but also aditional promotional objects: a scupture of the airplane in the illustrations and a sticker pack.
