Workspace ONE Proximity is a tech-for-good initiative from VMware's End-User-Computing business unit. It is comprised of a mobile app and an admin console. I was responsible for the designs of the admin console.
Proximity is meant to keep employees informed and improve workplace safety as they return to the office during the pandemic. Through the app, employees can privately notify admins and colleagues should they test positive for the virus after being in the office. The application securely stores physical beacon interactions, helping an employee recall their whereabouts, which can support an organization’s manual contact tracing solutions. This helps collectively reduce the spread of exposure for employees returning to office and helps admins prioritize deep cleaning in necessary spaces.
The admin console focuses on managing the company's beacons, notifying admins when an employee has anonymously reported testing positive, and clearing such incidents. A later Phase 2 was designed to introduce building structures to organize beacons such as rooms and floors to allow occupancy tracking. Building management could receive alerts when room or building occupancy exceeded certain threshold and keep track of room, floor, and building usage to help guide new workspace configurations based on post-pandemic needs.
