Rock Boxes
A set of modular wooden boxes inspired by the irregularity found in nature

Designed and made in Fall 2019 for an open ended prompt to develop personal design processes. Rock boxes was an opportunity to become more comfortable with the wood shop and creating items with imperfections.

Process for Rock Boxes began with mood boards and sketches. Then into paper models and understanding different woodworking techniques.

To make each Rock Box, a long piece of pine wood was cut into squares and glued together to create blocks. The opening of each box was cut using a drill press then the outer portion was carved using the bandsaw by changing the angle of the table. The final steps to completing each box included machine and hand sanding, and adding a layer of clear gloss finish.
