Dr. Hartmuth Bittner's profile

The Advent Health Transplant Institute

With decades of experience as a professor and thoracic surgeon, Dr. Hartmuth Bittner currently practices at Cardiac Surgery Associates in Lafayette, Indiana. After performing the first lung transplant in central Florida in September of 2012, Hartmuth Bittner began the Advent Health Transplant Institute, formerly the Florida Hospital Transplant Institute’s, lung transplant program. The Advent Health Transplant Institute seeks to care for patients’ holistically, rather than merely their physical needs.

Created in 1973, the Advent Health Transplant Institute can provide transplants for all organs for which it is possible. Across all its programs, patients at this facility experience wait times significantly shorter than the national average. A patient seeking a lung transplant, for example, waits only 6.1 days to receive their procedure, a quarter of the national wait time.

In addition to its medical facilities the Advent Health Transplant Institute hosts sites catered toward the patient’s mental and spiritual well-being. The Bartch Transplant House can not only accommodate the patient while they undergo treatment, but their family as well. The Bartch Transplant House is available to patients who travel more than 35 miles to undergo a procedure.
