Commercial Project : Estia Restaurant, Aloft Hotels, Bangalore/Chennai/Coimbatore

Capturing the "blue hues of a Moroccan sunrise" was the brief for interiors in Estia Moroccan restaurants in Aloft Hotels. The exciting treat-of-a-challenge for this project was to create a predominantly blue textured and detailed bead curtain, keeping true to Moroccan craftsmanship, but also (the delightful treat) to bring in the bright yellows and oranges of fabulous Moroccan sunshine. Such was the vision of interior designer Tilak of Tilak Associates. Not often does one combine blues and oranges and I had certainly not done so for bead curtains. But as they say what comes of getting out of the box can often be far beyond ones imagination. The bead curtain was to add secret highlights in the restaurant and capture the sunlight streaming in through its large floor to ceiling height windows.
The end product that emerged was detailed with multiple blue hues in small oval transparent glass beads accented with similar shades of leaf cut glass beads, interspersed between clusters of leaf beads were chunkier batasa shape blue glass beads intricately highlighted in opaque yellow and orange glass beads. Today, this detailed transparent pure glass bead curtain greets guests of the restaurant and hotel as it hangs on the dominating bay windows, looking pretty and playful in its sunny Moroccan setting. The clients keen on the bead curtain replicated the same in two other locations in the country.
