the girl who fell in love with the moon

For my final project in Illustration and Visual Media course at London College of Communication UAL, I decided to directed and produce a stop motion animation named ’the girl who fell in loved with the moon’. In which I designed the set, characters and the narrative while also film and edit the final product.

The story is based on a girl name Claire who is deeply in loved, borderline obsessed, with the Moon. Everything in her room is somewhat related to the Moon, starting with the posters to the moon flowers. Her drive and passion allow Claire to find a way to encounter her lover. To reach the Moon, Claire decided to build a cannon which transport all the way outside the Earth. Once Claire reached the Moon and their eyes crossed, it was instant love. Knowing that the Moon shared the same feelings as Claire did, made the Moon give out her own heart to her lover. As the story ends, they demonstrate their love with a final hug.

In a more conceptual level, I want to focus on Claire’s obsession with the Moon, not only by the items surrounding her, but also the way it was filmed. The square framed technique is to highlight the details in films. In ’the girl who fell in love with the moon’ I decided to use this technique to underline her obsession with the moon and in retrospective my obsession with character, knowing the she appeared 90% of the film. Also, the use of real human hands for the close shot of the characters’ hands was to break the fourth wall between the movie and the director. By including my own hands, it creates a more personal input into my own movie.
