With this Re-design project, I sought to redo the design of an existing chair by giving it a new identity. I started from an object that is practical, ergonomic, intended for daily use by humans. Next, I made it imitate its user by applying a texture made from dyed and felted wool, which tries to mimic human skin. In this way, the chair receives organicity and corporality, receives a skin of its own. In order to make this chair I was inspired by the vitiligo skin condition. Vitiligo is a condition in which the loss of cells that colour the skin (melanocytes) leads to smooth, white spots in the middle of the skin normally pigmented. Vitiligo affects about 1-2% of world population. Change in appearance caused by vitiligo can affect the emotional and psychological well-being of a people and can create discrimination. But, in recent years, society has begun to pay more attention to vitiligo and how it is perceived. Instead of this difference in appearance causing rejection, it could be celebrated as an aspect that gives uniqueness to a person, helping us to see the beauty in the authenticity.
Human and its imitations.
