On the Light
This project starts from my interpretation of the invisible city called Octavia, from the book Le città invisibili by Italo Calvino. The spatial elements of ‘over the void’, ‘hanging below’ and ‘ spider-web like’ is expressed through series of paper models, which are then drawn as a 2D kaleidoscope.The kaleidoscope drawing is later translated into a 3D spatial setting, portion of that into the final design.
The final design focuses on the lighting effects and aims to bring an immersive experience to visitors. The form of the design consists of multiple layers, just like the city Octavia. It is a complex space, where visitors could climb up the structure providing them a whole new view of the space. Visitors could try to walk ‘on the light’ .The structure is a clear acrylic platform hanged from the ceiling. Apart from sunlight at daytime, artificial lights were included to produce lighting effects at night.There is a futuristic, cool and surreal mood.
