I picked up a free edge piece of two and a half inch thick black walnut and turned into an end table. There are six large fingers that are inlayed with thin slices of hard maple. The walnut slab, which was hand planed and cut in half, then rests on a mitered, much more delicate maple box. The box can rotate and be placed in various positions for a different aesthetic or function. You can put apples on it, too.
