Google Doodle - Space Day

Space Day is an unofficial holiday, created in 1997 by the American aerospace company Lockheed Martin. A former American astronaut, John Glenn, turned Space Day into International Space Day in early 2001 and it is now celebrated all across the globe.
The goal of National Space Day is to promote STEM education; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, to young people. The hope is to inspire them to pursue a career in aerospace science or engineering. Space-related jobs involve a wide range of specialities, such as working at NASA JPL as an engineer, or as an astronomer working for various private aerospace companies. The holiday also aims to encourage the public toa to take an interest in space and space exploration. National space day is also a way to celebrate the achievements of space agencies all around the world, from the first person in space to building a permanent presence up there.
