The Main Ingredient | Layout & Branding

The Main Ingredient is a fictional company and healthy eating magazine. The goal of this project was to experiment with designing a branded magazine layout. These designs were created using a combination of Photoshop, Illustrator, and inDesign.

The palette was selected to resemble themes of health and common healthy foods, like herbs and salads. A few fonts were used in this design, the two primary fonts being Marion and Lato.
Marion was used for the body copy, as serif font is typically considered more readable/legible for large amounts of text. It's a simple, yet professional style font so the material is found trustworthy but not too strict. Varying weights and sizes of Lato are used for subheadings, article descriptions, and the numbers for the table of contents. Lato is also a fairly simple font, but it does well to stand out and aid in hierarchy and flow.
A couple of areas within this design use a sort of decorative, sort of handwritten font to add some variation and really stand out, like the main feature article heading "Fresh Herbs" and even the pull quotes.
