The peony or mudan or bazsarózsa or Paeonia suffruticosa became relatively late, at the time of the Tang dynasty part of the Chinese gardens. But there are not many flowers whose career had run such magnificent popularity. For centuries it has been the most popular plant, emperors adored it, lords extolled by poets and scholars praised the verses, but the common people also always loved and held in high esteem. During the Song Dynasty, the peak of its triumph this flower was called "a hundred ounces of gold" ( bai lian yin ) or the " King of Flowers " ( huawang ). This majestic flower was a frequent subject of arts. During flowering time long lavish festivities were hold in the capital. People paid fabled sums for a new breed. The records tell that in the 9 century one of the emperor 's garden tens of thousands of peony plants blossomed in many different colors .In the traditional Chinese thinking the peony symbolises prosperity, abundance, honor and dignity . The white peony is a symbol for young girls who are not only beautiful but ingenious too. In the moon calendar represent the fifth moon-month and usually is the sign of spring. In Japan peony became naturalized during the 8 century and still today is highly respected.
