Life Drawing (continuous)

This is my first piece from my life drawing class.
I used a small stick as a drawing media to transfer the ink onto the page; I used a dark ink to show the shaded and darker areas of the figure and a pale colour for the light areas. I have never thought of using unconventional materials such as a stick however after doing this piece I now think that it gives a better effect then a paint brush would because of how unpredictable and different the strokes come out.
This image focuses on the negative space involved in life drawing, it was an exercise to show shape and proportion of the body from drawing around it, and how important the space is outside of the figure as well. I decided to use black and white media because I wanted the main focus to be on how I potrayed texture into the image background by using different textured surfaces to draw on top of.
This is a piece which i created using carcole and a rubber to rub away dark areas to show the highlighted parts of the human figure. I quite like the effect it gives the image as i feel that using the rubber makes the darker areas stand out more which also contrasts with the highlighted areas.
I found that drawing people with clothes on to be a lot more difficult because of the detailing and creasing created by the clothes. However it's useful as im studing fashion, so I draw people in clothing all the time just  distorted and out of proportion  instead of drawing from the eye. I chose to do the first drawing in biro because  i like the effect of crosshatching as shading. The second drawing is done with charcole, i like the darkness it has and how you can still see the biro markings underneath.
I enjoy the texture that frottage and collage creates i think that the different markings are a good way of showing shading and highlighted areas. Charcole was the best media to use to creat the texture on the paper, this is an image of a smaller less detailed frottage creation and i feel that it doesnt completely show the different textured look as well as my A2 piece.
This is a simple imaged created using diluted paint apllied with a small stick, I felt that from doing this previously it creates a different, better effect as the lines are all different sizes and are not the same as a paintbrush where you get a more fine, sleek looking image. I found the angle unusal to draw from but adding in the shadows made it look less disformed.
I like the simplicity that pencil potrays in a drawing. I did this drawing in 10 minutes and i think that added shading would make it stand out more, however I also like the plain style potrayed from this and I think that sometimes its nice to do something less extreme and more natural.
I enjoy experimenting with different media and techniques as I like the different outcomes that are created. For example this drawing is based on complimentary colours, I have used a unique colour scheme for the face skin and hair such as using yellow and other bright colours to show the highlighted areas and dark based colours for shadowing. This different take is very fresh and I like the unique look created from using this complimentary colour scheme.
