Student Brief

In this brief we are being tasked with identifying a typically boring adulting activity and making it more fun and engaging. Using divers such as Body, Home, Work, Play or Community as a focus towards identifying and solving these activities. The activity could be anything from house chores, to paying the bills and washing dishes.

Brief Outcome

The chosen driver is home which includes house chores such as ironing and cleaning dishes. This driver was chosen because due to the covid-19 lockdown, I now attend my classes online classes at home and also have a stay at home mom; making the problem more relatable.

Insights

For my insights I did interview research of my mom and my brother. They both have totally different outcomes, mom is not disturbed by chores, she does chores to distress but my brother on the other hand has no choice and always feels tired to do chores as he comes back home from school tired. According to my Research most adults including young adults find the kitchen to be the hardest room to clean in the house.
P.O.V Statements

1. Young adults need a way to be motivated to do chores because demotivate makes certain tasks harder, taking away from their energy and enjoyment.

2. Adults need a way to stay motivated about kitchen chores because the kitchen is the hardest room to clean in the house.

How might we?

1. How might we help stay at adults manage unmanageable tasks at home?

2. How might we help young adults who hate chores get motivated to do the chores?

Solution

The Solution I have chosen Is called Weekly Errand. Weekly Errand, its an app the user can interact with, gets awarded for doing chores but there must be proof, A photo as evidence of having done the chore to get the rewards.

Example: “A free massage appointment on Saturday can be unlocked by texting a photo of a clean kitchen- send a photo and must contain one box of crackers on the counter by the stove (to prevent re- using any previous photos). ”

How does it work?

Step 1: The User gets a notification
Step 2: A Message pops ups
Step 3: Pop up consist of the message chore and the unlock button
Step 4: The unlock button directs the user to the gallery to upload the image as proof to have done the chore, user can adjust image by cropping.
Step 5: Congratulation message with a meme underneath pops up and user can send back the message back to the receiver.
Step 6: The user is able to browse the app, either go the the information page or settings page or the favourite page in which the user can mark his/her favorite notes from the previous created notes which are under the home page.

Colour Scheme & Font

I chose colors that are to make the user feel clam, not feel overwhelmed, interactive and not frustrating. Blue is seen as conservative, Red is power and aggression, and brighter colors such as yellow and orange represent warmth not only with emotions
but also with temperature. A lighter tone of each of the colors were comprehended to bring about the calmness imagery needed. For the Font, I chose Lato San Serif font. The Lato thin weight font family is slick and elegant and complimented the logo very well as compare to the rest of the Lato family.

Logo page, Home page, Settings page and My notes page.

The Mock up above shows different pages of Weekly Errand app.
 1. The front page with the logo
 2. Home page both cut off from the mock up. The one screen at the top shows the bottom page of the favourite page and the screen at the far bottom left shows the top part of the favourite page.
3. The received or my notes on the far right bottom and the settings page on the far top left.

The video below will show the step by step function of the app.

In the video, it starts off with the logo page then goes to the received notification message in which the user would have received and clicks to get the full information. The page consist of a share button and a unlock button which is the next step. After clicking the button the app directs the user to the gallery to upload  the photo. Photo can be adjusted before moving to the next step. The Next step the user receives a congratulation message pop up with a meme. The create button directs the user to the note page where the user can edit and type a new message. The user can go back to home page which consist of the previously created notes. The favorite button which is represented with a star consists of all the favorite notes of the user. We then are taken to the information page then the settings page which the user is able to navigate through the app using the buttons in the task bar.
