The Art of Giving Back

A Photojournalistic Look into Cap-Haitian, Haiti
One of my main passions in life is giving back. In December of 2010, I was privileged enough to travel to the small town of Cap-Haitian, Haiti with my fiance and his family to serve and help the Haitian people in any way we could. While there, I was able to photograph the experiences, emotions, and inspirational people that we encountered each day. They were some of the most inspiring people I have ever met, and it was a time that I will never forget. I am greatly looking forward to returning back in the coming months.
.
We met this man upon entering a very small village of families just outside of Cap-Haitian. The three families that lived there had never really been exposed to anyone outside of their own, let alone Caucasians. When we had a chance to talk with him, we found out that he was making a fishing net to allow his family to fish for their dinner, as thier last one had broke. He had an amazing spirit to him that I will never forget.
There were the students we were priviledged enough to work with every day. They went to a school about twenty minutes from where we were staying and were some of the most amazing kids I have ever met. The friendships I made there, even through the language barrier, were friendships I will always keep with me.
These were the classrooms that each student was so happy and blessed to attend each day. This school brought them a glimmer of hope that many Haitian people would never experience.
