Taking Type On Terrace

Taking Type On Terrace.

I did a fun little project.

As I am growing my interest in Type Design i wanted to explore the new possibilities and where all i can take the letters, going on terrace was a daily routine in lockdown during the pandemic. I took on the terrace floor to draw my letters. It was such a fun :)

As a matter of fact, I didn’t had anything to draw on such a large scale. I collected some burned wood i.e. charcoal.

I took Devanagari letters as I am a native speaker of Hindi language. Over that Devanagari letters are so beautiful and fun to draw. Indic scripts are more curve than the latin and I am in love with them.

All the letters were constructed from the basic shapes and lines i.e. Circles, rectangle and lines.
The idea of the exercise was to get a understanding of proportion. On a big scale the details of the letters come in the play easily and I got to understand the details.

After this exercise I have figured out so many mistakes and have taken the note of them.

Letters are ultimately used for making words, sentences, paragraphs and text out of that. So here’s an example of the letters coming together to form a word.

Here’s the construction of letters. All the letters were made from combining shapes like this. It was quiet a fun to draw and erase the letters and make them work.

So, this are some similar looking letters. The construction of all this letters is quiet similar.
