Recently, I have been talking to a lot of photographers and other creatives about the idea of High Concept Art and whether or not it still matters in this time. I always hate to say this, but I really do think we might be beyond that? The golden age of art was motivated by High Concept Art, not to say the art itself was “high” but the driving force behind the work was based off really well thought concepts and creative motive.
As a result of this realization, I have decided that this is my second last High Concept body of work for a time, to see if it has been sustainable. I am very appreciative of the love I have been recieving thus far as it has kept me confident in the kinds of stuff I’ve been making as an attempt to fulfill my artist’s statement. Photography is, in my personal belief, a vocation I have been given and I will keep making but for a time, I believe I must step back and re-evaluate how my public persona should be.
