FAA Announces New Rules for At-Night Drone Operations

An aviation specialist with a significant background in developing aerospace launch operations, Leroy Stotelmyer was granted the senior leadership award by the United States Department of Defense (DOD) for supporting all Middle East countries in special operations. During his career, Leroy Stotelmyer served as a test and certification pilot for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for six years.

In April 2021, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) effected a new set of rules governing drone operations, which allow the operation of small drones over people at night. This could facilitate widespread commercial deliveries. Before the new rules, small drone operations over people were restricted to areas where everyone present is direct participants in the operation except in situations where drone operators obtain a waiver from the administration.

As part of the new rules, the previous mandate that drones must be internet-connected to transmit data on location is lifted. However, the drones must broadcast remote ID messages through radio frequency broadcast. The new rules have also made it mandatory that small drones should not have exposed rotatory parts that can lacerate human skin. Also, drones must possess anti-collision lights if they are to serve all-night operations.
