Supernatural: Asian Horror

Traditionally, the idea of horror has been derived from the rituals & ceremonies itself. The ability to connect with the dead is being tapped onto to instill fear in man. At times, it is also based on man’s knowledge of these rituals and
ceremonies. In contemporary Asian societies, the idea of horror takes on a different form. At most time, it operates at a more dream-like state so that man has no control over the situation. Fear is sitimulated through the use of man’s imagination. Horror not only relies on old traditions but is also a built up through the staging of things.
This artwork presents the intertwining relationship of traditions and contemporary horror in Asia through the studies of traditional tangibles from the Chinese Ghost Festival and the contemporary idea of horror in movies and films.
