Urban Farming

In Singapore, food security issues came to the fore when the pandemic led to closed borders and food protectionism, disrupting supplies and causing panic buying. Our reliance on global imports is perceptible in eggs, for instance, which we source from 11 countries. There has never been a greater need for food resilience and the citizens’ actions needed to achieve the government’s goal of 30 by 30—to produce 30% of our nutritional needs locally by 2030—has never been more urgent. As the National Parks Board give away seed packets to encourage home produce, it is apt to question how might home farming become a sustainable supplement to our nutritional diet?
Livin is a hydroponics automated farming system. With a hidden motor to circulate water and air, and also eliminates the breeding of mosquitoes and the need to constantly regulate water to the greens. Livin's automated system bridges the chores of home farming, together with removable puzzle play trays that will stimulate the instinct to grow greens amongst children.
How can we design new food futures that we would want to eat?
In Finland, Solar Foods has invented a revolutionary technique of producing
protein from renewable electricity and air, free from the shackles of agriculture and
aquaculture. MUJI has begun to sell Cricket Crackers that “has shrimp-like taste”.
The production of new food sources that are more energy-efficient is increasingly feasible in land-scarce Singapore. If we could consume 1 meatless meal a day , how much lesser of contribution to cattle pollution would that be? How can we design future that promotes better eco-system and food that we would want to consume?
Ingredients pretending to be 'ingredients'
Inspired by the intricate art of Japanese bento boxes
A bento is a single-portion take-out or home packed meal of Japanese origin. In Japan, it is common for mothers to make bento for their children to take to school. It is often a social expectation of mothers to provide bento that are of both, nutritionally balanced and aesthetically pleasing. Elaborate arrangements in bento boxes. All the goodness packed nicely in a box.
