ID Practice: Triplex Shoe Mould

Introduction
In our first semester, we were tasked in creating various different models of a a shoe out of white triplex board in order to assess our skills in manipulating viable materials to construct an accurate representation of an already existing product. Within all assessments, our attention to detail is of utmost importance since this medium does compliment various methods of manipulation during the construction process.
Footwear
Brief 1 - The aim for the first task was to create a replica of a chosen footwear item with white triplex board (using a 1:1 ratio scale), finishing the product in a raw state (not painted). Cutting, gluing, taping, laminating and sanding was allowed. The assessment requirements dictated the prioritization in attention to detail, a neat, clean constructed product, and an accurate replication of the footwear item overall. My chosen footwear was a Doc Martin boot, which brought upon many challenges, emphasis on the curved of the toe-cap and the lacing stitched above the rubber sole.
Footwear Section
Brief 2 - The second task entailed constructing a half-sectioned version of the previous model. This exercise focused on creating a representation of the shoe's inner-workings. The model had to be made with white triplex board, using a 1:1 ratio scale and finishing it off in a raw state. This task specifically brought a new perspective in terms of imagining what the interior of the boot looks like, only to discover quite a simplistic form of layering. Other than the pockets within where the rubber sole is allowed to move with ease, it does not accommodate the user with much padding above the sole.
Sectional Mirror Imprint
Brief - 3. The last task instructed that we create a one half section imprint of our chosen footwear (within the male category) into a tooling block. In order to comprehend such a design, one can imagine what it would look like pressing half of ones shoe into clay. The block had to be approximately 50mm larger than the imprint, whilst adhering towards the same medium as the previous models - white triplex board left in a raw state (no paint).
