A side scroller shooter set in a derelict space ship. The player traverses through the game as Jon, an engineer, who launches escape pods at broken parts of the ship to reel them in and repair them. The game features 2D hand animated sprites set within a 3D environment.
Character Promotional Art
Promotional art featuring the main character, Jon, firing out his shield illuminating the darkness. This was made to illustrate the functionality of the players shield as a weapon and a platform
Enemy Promotional Art
Promotional art featuring one of the enemies of this game, a malfunctioning turret found around the derelict space ship. They will fire energy blasts at the player and they must alternate between their shield and gun to defeat the turrets. They come in 3 variations depending on difficulty: Green, Yellow, and Red.
UI Assets
UI Assets found throughout the game from top left to bottom right: Enemy indicator, wall panel, dialogue box, pause menu, generic button. Each is styled as a holographic projection on the player's screen.
Animated Menus and Cinematics:
Animated Main Menu
The animated menu showcasing the broken ship the player traverses through. It features the reactor core in the center, the engines on the right, hydroponics/storage on the bottom, and security/command.
Level Select Screen
A digitally painted scene used as the level select screen for the game. Jon is standing at the reactor core of the space ship, gazing at the projector displaying the different broken parts of the ship. Comets occasionally whisk by the cracked glass of the outer part of the core. The space background was also created from scratch in Photoshop.
End Level Cutscene
This cinematic plays when the player reaches the end terminal of a level. It flashes the the terminal that the player interacts with along side a digitally painted illustration of Jon. It then closes off with black bars as the game transitions back to the level select screen.
Entering Level Cutscene
This cinematic is played while the game loads the selected level in the background. it shows how Jon launches a pod to the broken parts of the ship in order to anchor it and pull it back to the main body of the ship.
Assets for Cinematics
Various painted assets used in the cinematics found in the game. From left to right: cables tethering the ship, a drop pod to launch to levels, the end terminal that completes a level, and a full body illustration of Jon.
Map Paint Overs
Map One
A map paint over of a basic level layout for level one of our game. I was given the layout from our design team and was tasked with fleshing out the atmosphere and environment. Level one is the engine of the ship and features a large engine at the bottom of the level, and has a hole broken into the right side of the ship.
Map Two
A map paint over of a basic level layout for level one of our game. I was given the layout from our design team and was tasked with fleshing out the atmosphere and environment. Level two is the hydroponics and storage of the ship, featuring long dead leaves and vines as well as broken plant beds.
Map Three
A map paint over of a basic level layout for level one of our game. I was given the layout from our design team and was tasked with fleshing out the atmosphere and environment. Level three is the security and command section of the ship, and is the final level. There are plenty of broken terminals and more turrets than any other part of the ship. The player must traverse a broken elevator shaft before they can reach the final boss.
Sprite Sheets
Jon Sprite Sheet
The sprite sheet for the player character Jon, all hand created in Photoshop. This sheet features Jon's walking animation, idle animation, death animation, jump animation, and weapon swap animation.
Enemy Turret Sprite Sheet
The sprite sheet for one of the turret variations found in the game. This sheet features the base of the turret, the turret in its idle state, and the firing animation.
